The debate about the legibility of title deeds issued to Kilifi residents is far from over with County Commissioner Joseph Keter being the latest leader to weigh in on the matter.
This comes after the national government dismissed allegations by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi that the deeds issued to residents were fake.
Addressing residents in Mwarakaya-Chonyi, Keter said that Kingi and other leaders from the opposition have been misleading residents with the aim of gaining popularity ahead of the August polls.
The commissioner hit out at Kingi, saying the governor should instead be focusing on mobilizing residents to accept titles deeds as the government strives to address the issue of squatters.
“That’s a baseless claim by such an honourable leader who should be on the frontline in ensuring his people get title deeds,” said Keter, as quoted by Baraka FM.
He also said that the national government has assigned ten officers in the region to undertake the verification process before the issuance of 4,610 title deeds.
This comes after Kingi accused the government of duping residents with fake title deeds in a bid to convince them to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid.
