Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga has declared an onslaught on deadly criminal gangs operating within the county, a day after two people from Bokeira ward were brutally murdered.
Onunga has come under scathing attacks from a section of the MCAs who have called for her resignation citing the deteriorating security as the major reason.
But Onunga on Thursday said the police have been deployed to hot spot areas to intensify patrols for the sake of restoring sanity.
“It’s unfortunate that a number of innocent lives have been killed by gangs for no reason. I have ordered deployment of more security officers to the troubled region to bring normalcy,” she said.
“We are expecting more patrols and hopefully the crimes will be combated. Everyone needs good security and it’s upon us to provide it for them. The criminal gangs must be ready for tough times,” she added.
The county commissioner ordered perpetrators top surrender to the nearest police station or risk the wrath from security officers who are due to launch a series of missions to bring perpetrators to book.
“We are launching a crackdown on those casing the mayhem. No one will be spared and it’s advisable that they surrender to the police before we catch up with them. Those who committed heinous act in Matongo must be ready to face the full force of the law,” she added.
She also urged residents to be vigilant by sharing intelligence with security personnel for quick responses in the near future.
