Lang'at also warned chiefs and their assistants from his area of jurisdiction that they risk interdiction if found arbitrating sexual offenses  involving teachers and their female learners.

Speaking at Sameta High School during sub-county education stakeholders' meeting, Lang'at who is also the chairperson of the sub-county education board challenged local communities against settling defilement cases out of courts as it deprived the aggrieved girls of their right to accessing justice.

She challenged teachers to discharge their professional duties in line with their code of conduct and respect their female learners as their daughters.

The commissioner expressed concern over increasing defilement cases targeting the girl-child in the area to the detriment of her right to education.

"The primary responsibility of any teacher is to teach and impart moral values in our children, to ensure they become responsible citizens," said Lang'at.

"No teacher should be found preying on their female learners for sexual favours as it compromises the dignity and integrity of the teaching profession," she added.

She put on notice all teachers sexually abusing their female pupils and students that they risk being reported to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for interdiction and legal action.
