Kisumu East Sub-county Commissioner Moses Ole Tutui has urged chiefs and their assistants to impound all illicit brew dens in Kisumu, in an effort to stamp out the vice.
The administrators have further been asked to ensure that both the illicit brewers and consumers are arrested and arraigned in court as soon as possible.
Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday morning, Tutui said that they were launching a crackdown on all illicit brew joints in the town.
“Illicit brew has been killing people all over the country. We are going to ensure those involved are arrested and arraigned in court, it is illegal since the standards of such alcohol are too low,” said Tutui.
“We cannot be talking about the same things every time. This issue has now gotten out of hand and it is about time we looked into matter through a serious crackdown,” added Tutui.
The Administrator expressed concern on the number of youth, men and old women who are being wasted as a result of consuming the said brews.
“The youth and married men are becoming very useless and irresponsible to their loved ones and other dependents as they spend most of their time, money and resources in those illicit brews dens,” added Tutui.
He hinted that they intend to launch the crackdown on Manyatta, Migosi, Kibos, Nyalenda and Obunga estates in Kisumu.
