Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hasaan has raised concerns over what he termed as deteriorating values among the Muslim community in Uasin Gishu.
Addressing a meeting of Muslim community members in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Hassan lamented that sell of Miraa and illegal substances was being done near Mosques.
He challenged Muslim leaders to stand firm and openly speak against sell of illegal substances near their places of worship.
The county commissioner further asked Muslims to embrace cores and values expected of them by the society that look at them as role models.
"It's unfortunate that Miraa and even other illegal substances like bang is now being sold near Mosques which is supposed to be a place to workshop God. I expect leaders to stand out against such things that might end up tainting the image of the Muslim community," Hassan noted.
"Muslim is a respected religion and its time we stood up and reclaimed that status by publicly denouncing unacceptable behavior that some of our members are engaged in," he added.
