Drivers in Kisii have been warned against breaking traffic rules such as carrying excess passengers and overloading.

Kisii County deputy commissioner Peter Mbugi on Tuesday said careless drivers will face the music.

Mbugi said most accidents that have claimed lives have been caused by careless driving, overloading and carrying excess passengers.

“Any driver who doesn’t observe traffic rules and regulations will be arrested. Traffic officers must be on high alert to arrest the careless drivers,” he said.

He warned traffic officers against asking bribes from motorists to allow drivers operate the road illegally.

“Traffic police officers attached to NTSA should be keen when inspecting PSV vehicles on the roads. Vehicles that don’t meet the requirement must keep off the roads to curb accidents,” he noted.

Mbugi urged residents not to board vehicles that are already full.
