Kisumu County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed has issued a stern warning against persons forcing others to disclose their voter registration status.

He said: 'There are some youths who are forcing others to disclose their voter registration status. This is against the law.''

He warned that those engaging in the uncouth behavior would be caught up with the long arm of the law.

“The most important thing we should be doing is informing the public about the important of registering as a voter, not forcing anyone to register,” he said.

According to him, voter registration should be voluntary, and not forceful.

The exercise is in its second week, and will end February 14, ahead of the August 8, general election.
