Mombasa County Commissioner has warned politicians at the Coast against inciting the electorate, and making utterances that may flare up tension ahead of next year’s general election.
Mohamed Maalim said they will not allow politicians to use the public to cause chaos ahead of the 2017 elections.
“I know some of you are vying for different seats in the 2017 elections. I am warning you that you cannot use politics to mobilise rioters in a bid to get votes. We will not allow that and we will deal with you firmly,” said Maalim.
Speaking during a security meeting in Dudus area Likoni, the commissioner confirmed that they have launched investigation against Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima, over the alleged involvement in demonstrations at Likoni police station.
Maalim said action will be taken against the legislature once investigations are completed.
“We are investigating the leader who allegedly mobilised the rioters to storm the police station. There will be no selective application of the law,” said the commissioner.
