County Commissioner John Elunguta on Tuesday said government vehicles in the county should be used to transact government business and anything contrary to that wold attract disciplinary action.
Mr Elanguta noted that many vehicles with registration plates GK in Kisumu were being used in transacting personal business contrary to the law.
Elungata used the Kisumu County Service Delivery Board meeting on Tuesday to shoot the warning.
He said vehicles that were conducting personal business most of the time refuse to be checked when stopped on road blocks.
"I have information that some GK drivers never stop when asked to do so on road blocks by our officers and that is the beginning of committing offenses," said Elungata.
He said those found engaging in personal business using government vehicles will be fined heavily.
"Having a GK vehicle does not mean that you are above the law. I take this opportunity to warn the drivers and owners that harsh disciplinary measures will be taken in case one is found guilty. You should be warned that persistence in using such vehicles in conducting personal business will lead to repossession," said Elanguta.
He added that he had received complains that the fines charged were hefty.
He said the heavy fines were intentional and meant to prevent other people from committing such offences again.
