The county chief speaking on Saturday when he led Nyamira North locals during the national tree planting day said farmers should avoid planting trees which will destroy their crops in farms.

“Farmers should seek advice from agricultural extension officers from the county on the good species of trees they should plant in their farms so that they don’t destroy crops in their farms. As much as trees are helping us to get timbers and other products we should also consider species which will not harm us,” he said.

He called on the farms to keep off planting trees especially blue gum near water sources.

“Trees that will make water sources such as rivers and springs to dry up should not be planted because we all need water for consumption and domestic uses across the county,” he noted.

The commissioner challenged Nyamira County government through the department of environment to ensure trees near water sources are cut down to avoid water shortage from hitting the county once the water springs dries up.
