The claims that the county government of Garissa used sh19 million during the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Ali Korane are baseless and ill-motivated, the Assumption of Office Committee has now said.
According to the team, the governor’s swearing-in ceremony only cost Sh4.7 million and not Sh.19 million as claimed in reports doing rounds on social media and other platforms.
Speaking to the Star, Committee chairman Mohamud Mursal on Thursday said that the team is open to any form of scrutiny, adding that the members have vowed to serve the people diligently and without fear or favor,
“Whatever you saw in the report was the best budget estimates the committee could have, but the actual spending was Sh4.7 million,” he said, as quoted by The local daily.
The members of the committee also said that they had received Sh6 million from the Controller of Budget of which they only spent Sh4.7 million for the ceremony. The team has, however, not explained what the balanced was used for after the report attracted mixed reactions from different factions.
The detailed report indicated that the cash was used for different purposes including expenses of hiring band services, media services, event ushers, security, provision of first aid and lodge.
