Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua had a difficult time answering to questions from members, when he appeared before the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee, Thursday.
He appeared before the Committee to shed more light on his claims, after he linked Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, a senior Cord senator (who he did not reveal the name), and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, to the grabbing of huge tracts of land in Mavoko and Yatta areas.
He accused Musyoka of grabbing a 400 acre piece of land in Mavoko Sub-county and another 200 acre piece of land that was owned by the National Youth Service (NYS) in Yatta.
Committee members from the Opposition such as Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale questioned authenticity of Mutua's documents which he presented before the Committee.
Khalwa said the claims had no basis and that Mutua's intentions were to taint Musyoka's reputation.
However Kiambu senator Kimani Wa Matangi who is also a member of the Committee, defended the governor, saying those mentioned should be summoned for in-depth grilling to ascertain the authenticity of Mutua's allegations.
He also explained why some items had not been paid, among other reasons, low quality on the part of certain contractors.
Mutua further sought the indulgence of the committee to provide further documents this coming Friday.
"That includes details touching on stalled projects initiated by the defunct local authorities,'' he said.
