The Parliamentary Committee on lands has started its investigation on the sale of 3,000 acre piece of land which is in Naivasha Sub-county to Kengen without the consent of the owners.
Speaking to journalists, Alex Muiru, who is the Parliamentary Committee Chairman said that the land which belonged to Ngati Farmers Society was sold at a price of Sh500 million.
“We have launched our investigations to try and find out how such a big piece of land can change hands from the real owners, who are Ngati Farmers Society to Kengen before taking the necessary actions,” said Muiru.
“We are also aware that the farmers were each given Sh415, 000 and that some members refused to take the money and they are the ones who called for the investigations,” added Muiru.
Muiru, who was speaking on Friday while in Naivasha town, said that the Parliamentary Committee will visit Maella, where they will listen to all the farmers’ grievances before coming up with a report that will be tabled in the National Assembly.
“The members, who refused to take the cash, petitioned the Parliamentary Committee to come to Naivasha and investigate the whole saga and come up with a solution,” he added.
Naivasha MP John Kihagi, who is also one of the members of the Parliamentary Committee, told the press that they will not rest until they establish exactly how much the land was sold, and how the money was shared, and who were involved in the whole deal.
“The Committee has also received numerous complains that the society's officials have increased the number of members and we want to find out the whole truth about this issue so that we can resolve it once and for all,” said Kihagi.
