The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock), have set September 29 as the date of their elections.

The date was arrived at during an extraordinary meeting chaired by Nock chairman Kipchoge Keino, at their Plaza 2000 offices along Mombasa Road on Monday 5th September.

A High Court injunction filed by Kenya Taekwondo Association, who claimed they had been denied of their right of participation, stopped the elections which were initially set for May 5 2017.

From the meeting the resolution that was made allowed 20 federations to take part in the elections including Kenya Taekwondo Association, Kenya Cycling Federation and Kenya Badminton Association who were earlier omitted from the voters’ register.

In addition, the three federations were asked to sort out their internal wrangles or risk being barred from the exercise.

The meeting agreed to continue with the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) to oversee the electoral process but the federations will give them fresh terms of reference. National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) secretary Francis K. Paul, said candidatures for various seats remain open but they will not have fresh nominations.

The September date is poised as an opportunity to elect fresh faces to the already discredited committee and rebuild its profile.
