The communication department of Nyamira County has received a strong backing from Governor John Nyagarama moments after it was subjected to criticism.
The department had come under scrutiny from deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo who claimed it had failed in its mandate of informing the public and media over a host of projects that the county government has undertaken.
But on Tuesday, Nyagarama hailed his communication team as "excellent", contradicting the statement made by his deputy.
“My communication team is doing excellent job because all the information we want the public to know is always available. It’s wrong to insinuate that they are sleeping on the job and after all, none of the residents has complained,” he said.
The Nyamira County boss vindicated his team from claims that they never coordinated well with county journalists for the purpose of publicity.
“I have never gone for an official function without being accompanied by members of press from various media houses. I think the same happens when top county government officials are out to launch key activities,” Nyagarama said.
“That shows that our communication department informs the press and members of the public about crucial events. Let’s give credit to our communication team instead of waging unnecessary war against them. They are competent, and have proved that time and again,” he added.
The remarks are set to spark yet another row between the two leaders who have never been seen together in public for months now given their deteriorating relationship.
