A community based organisation has been formed in Planet area in Nakuru County, to empower people living with HIV/AIDS virus.
Speaking during the launch of the group, acting Chairperson Peter Maina said the organization has been formed with the aim of assisting victims of the scourge, on how to get proper medical care and diet, as well as curbing stigmatization and isolation.
Maina said due to stigmatization and isolation from family members and friends, the victims have come together to curb the vice, which has caused more harm to the affected individuals and the society as a whole.
“Due to stigmatization and discrimination among HIV victims, we have decided to come together to fight stigma and give one another psyche-social support,” said Maina.
The organization has also embarked on income generating activities to facilitate good nutrition and proper medication for the group members
The 25-member group have already started income generating activities, where they are now doing crafting, which includes making baskets, bundles and earrings, which they sell to tourists and locals to earn some cash.
Group Secretary General Mercy Mwangi said since the group has one agenda, which is supporting the AIDS victims, any body is free to join and work with them to a achieve their goal.
“Anybody can join us, so long as he is positive and has a vision to live longer,” she said.
