A Kisumu based community organisation has launched a five-year child protection project at a cost of Sh60 million. The programme coordinator of Mwendo, Linda Achieng, said the organisation has set out to work with Catholic relief services which will facilitate child protection in the region.Achieng said the project targets 15 other counties. The coordinator said out of the 15 counties, only Nandi and West Pokot are inactive since other counties are still running parallel programmes.“We are supporting over 140 households and we expect the number to increase tremendously as the two inactive counties will resume operations,” she noted.Kisumu West sub-county children’s officer Bilha Akoth said those frustrating the full implementation of child protection have been identified. Akoth said over 70 girls who were married off after they dropped out school have been assisted to go back to school to continue with their studies.
