Biashara MCA Joe Mutuga has called on the Kiambu county government to pay the Community Health Workers (CHW) in his ward their stipend.
Mutuga said that its four months now since the Kiambu County Assembly passed the CHWs bill which allows them to receive a stipend of Sh7,000 per month yet those from his ward have not received a penny.
Speaking from his ward on Wednesday, Mutuga said that the county government should implement the Bill and ensure the CHWs are given their money as other county workers.
He added that since the bill was passed no health worker in his ward has received anything and called on the executive wing of the government to ensure the deliver the money immediately.
Mutuga appealed to the Kiambu health services executive member Dr Jonah Manjari to move to with speed and ensure that the money is delivered seeing that they have been sustaining the levels of hygiene among the residents of Biashara.
“We cannot work without these people. We have one hospital in this area and not everyone can access it all the time and the CHWs are the ones who make the work easier for them. Let’s concentrate on what helps our people at the moment and pay their stipends,” Mutuga said.
He observed that the community health workers do a commendable work within the society and their work should be appreciated.
A close examination shows that in other wards the CHWs have been paid and the health chief officer Dr Stephen Njuguna, through a phone interview, said that they had delivered cash for all the workers and they should check with their ward administrator.
