Members of Kambiii sub-location community policing in Yatta sub-county have expressed their dissatisfaction on controlling crime and accused Kambii chief, assistant chief and administration police officers in the area for complexity.

The eight members who appended their signatures in a memorandum addressed to Yatta DCC Lesman Odunga and received by the local OCPD Edward Kipsang decried the escalating crime in the area saying that some of the key players were not doing enough to control crime.

They alleged that the chief was conducting kangaroo courts, appointing drunkard village elders without consulting anybody, encouraging illicit brewing and consumption of the same.

The memo also accused the Chief and the police officers of collecting money from illicit brewers to protect them adding that as a result eradicating the vice in the community was a nightmare unless if the officers were removed.

The community policing committee secretary Mr. Elizaphan Mwago who also signed the letter appealed to the DCC to intervene so that petty crimes in the community could be controlled.

Contacted for comment, the Kamwimbi chief Gerald Gicheru, however, downplayed the issue saying that the dissatisfied community policing committee members wanted to control the committee which he said was unacceptable.

He said that although illicit brewing was taking place in the area, it was not rampant and vowed to work hard to eradicate it adding that he never collected any money from brewers as alleged.
