Nyamage residents in Kisii county have given their voice on the services provided by the alleged community policing group within their village.
The villagers claim that the community policing unit is corrupt with most cases of its members pending for hearing at the area chiefs office.
They claim that these officials move from house to house as is their usual duty of ensuring security but behind the patrols, they engage themselves in criminal activities during the night such as theft and asking for bribes when they are asked to assist the residents in recovering stolen property.
In a recent case, a resident lost her shop items worth thousands of shillings but to her shock, the items were found with one of the community policing officials.
When interrogated the official claimed that he had recovered them as stolen property and that he was keeping them for the owner to come and pick them after paying what he called waiting charge.
The residents, therefore, urge the office of the area chief to suspend the whole community policing group since it offers no help to the troubled residents as they claim.
