Kiprono says that legal action will be taken against such companies.

Speaking at the Nakuru National Park on Friday, Kiprono alleged that some companies are discharging waste into the Lake which has resulted in deaths of hippos. He said that several hippos have died as result of drinking contaminated water.

Kiprono said that investigations show the hippos are dying because of toxins from the water they and drink and the environment they stay in.

Kiprono said that they have raised the matter with the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) and the ministry of environment.

“It is against the environment Act and laws for companies or any person to charge waste into lakes and other ecosystem, those engaging in such acts will be arrested and taken to court,” he said.

The KWS director said that rate at which hippos and other water based animals and species are dying is of major concern.

Meanwhile, Kiprono has warned poachers and ivory traders saying that they will not be spared. The Director said that the agency has partnered with other government institutions to curb poaching.

“Our laws on poaching and ivory trade are very clear, no one found engaging in poaching will be spared,” he warned.

The official, further cautioned government workers allegedly colluding with poachers saying that they too will face the law.
