Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company has been lauded for fixing several sewer systems that had leaked for the last two months in Mavoko Sub County.
Addressing press in Athi River town on Saturday, Athi River Township MCA, Mutua Mutuku, said the company had done a commendable job by fixing all the leakages.
"As a leader in the region, I laud the water company for fixing all leaking sewer systems in Athi River Town among other parts of Mavoko," said Mutuku.
Mutuku said the leakages had posed a health hazard for long periods of time arguing it could have been disastrous in case of cholera out breaks.
According to him, the rectification of the lines were timely given that rains have just started which could have made the situation worse if the sewer systems were still in deplorable states.
The MCA said the company's management should now focus on maintaining the lines to ensure they did not break again thereby posing health risks to residents.
“The company should also be on look out to make sure water provided by it to the residents was clean and safe for human consumption to avoid unnecessary infections due to contaminated water,” he said.
Residents of Mavoko Sub County had early this year raised concerns over deplorable states of most of sewerage systems in the region, as there had been leakages all over.
