Hundreds of farmers from Borabu constituency turned up in large numbers for a seminar organised by Bayer Company, a national agricultural chemical distributor.
The seminar aimed at teaching farmers on improving their yield in dairy, poultry and horticultural farming.
Speaking in Mogusii stadium on Friday, Field Operations Manager Kihara Mugo said the three-day seminar will conclude on Sunday with farmers expected to be given fungicides, insecticides and pesticides for their crop and livestock.
He said the program will soon be rolled to out Kitutu Masaba and West Mugirango constituencies once a MoU with Nyamira County government is signed.
“Our company has a huge adoration from Borabu and that is why we are pitching a tent here till Sunday. One of the major objectives of our company is to teach farmers about the best farming practices and I am really impressed on how you have come in numbers,’ Mugo said.
He urged farmers to practice rotational farming and emphasised on the need for dairy farmers to persistently seek advises from the company officials or other area agricultural experts.
“We want to make Nyamira region a better agribusiness hub and we are in discussion with the county government over the same. What is important though, we ought to follow good farming practices like embracing rotational farming and consulting experts to increase yields. But remembers using the chemicals to counter any impediment to good yields is necessary,” he added.
Agricultural Financial Cooperation Chairman Patrick Osero hailed the company and urged officials to be in touch with farmers as part of cooperate social responsibility.
“When I see farmers receiving training, it is very important to recognise the efforts of the Bayer Company. I appreciate your work,” Osero said.
