A Nairobi court will today deliver the verdict on whether computer guru Alex Mutuku will be freed on bond or remain in custody for 40 days.
Mutuku was last week charged over the theft of Sh4 billion KRA money and Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi gave the directive when the 28-year-old pleaded not guilty to the alleged fraud of Sh 3,985,663,858 from the taxman.
The money was allegedly lost through electronic interfering with KRA's computer systems.
Mutuku's lawyer, Tacey Makori, had earlier protested the request to detain her client for a further 40 days, arguing that police had not presented evidence of what had been collected in the 14 days he has been in custody.
However, the prosecution argues that if left free, Mutuku has the ability to remotely interfere with the servers and that he is a threat to national security.
They further say that Mutuku has been working with suspects outside the country.
