An evangelist, who allegedly conned a man Sh 30,000 was arraigned in a Thika Court and released on Sh 200,000 bond. Eunice Njeri appeared before a Thika magistrate and was accused of fraudulently obtaining the cash from the complainant. Njeri, a known evangelist from Makongeni, conned Kinuthia Mbugua, Sh 30,000 with a promise to double the amount through prayers. It was alleged that on March 20, 2015, Njeri, the driver of a car (KBT 144/E), and a pastor, tricked Kinuthia into believing that if he gave her Sh 30,000 he'll get the money in double. "I believed her as she's a known woman of God, and she really convinced me, even giving me examples of people whose miracles had come true, it never once occurred to me she could con me," Kinuthia said. Njeri after getting the money, switched off her phone and went into hiding, where an arrest warrant was issued and she was arrested. Inspector Ali told the court that the theft in God's name had become rampant with pastors conning the innocent congregation, hence actions to be taken accordingly. In court, Njeri pleaded not guilty and was released on a bond of 200,000.The case will be mentioned on May 5, 2015.
