Legislators at the Kisumu County Assembly have raised concern that there is a con-woman out on a mission to swindle money from them.
The members of the local legislative house claim that the woman is camouflaging under the title of the County Director of Education.
The matter was presented before the Assembly during the Tuesday session as an issue of urgent concern by Deputy Speaker Erick Ogola, who also disclosed that he had been receiving communication from the same 'con woman’.
Ogola informed the house that the woman has been sending text messages to the Ward Reps requesting that they send her ‘lunch’, adding that the messages had been received by at least 15 male legislators.
The Deputy Speaker further noted that even before the session started, the lady who then identified herself as Gladys had called him and her calls had now persisted for at least one week.
“On Monday, I received a text message and a call from a woman who identified herself as the County Director of Education. She has been sending me text messages and even calling me to follow up on her request,” said Ogola as quoted by Standard.
“I want to warn members that there is a con woman out there trying to extort money from us,” Ogola added.
Majority leader, Kenneth Onyango, and Ahero MCA Ken Ooko attested that they had received similar communication from the woman.
The Police are yet to institute investigations into the matter since according to Kisumu Director of Criminal Investigations, Geoffrey Kathurima, the local legislators were yet to report the matte to the law enforcers.
“They should record a statement with us so that we can investigate the allegations,” Kathumira was quoted by Standard.
This is not the first time an imposter is masquerading with politicians in the country. Recently several MPs in Nairobi were allegedly conned thousands of shillings in similar circumstances.
