The National government has been challenged to arrest drug traffickers in the Country and not concentrate more on Shisha issue.

Reach out Centre Trust, a Coast-based anti-drug abuse lobby said that though they support the move it lacked impact at all in deterring youth from abusing drugs.

Reachout Executive Director Taib Abdulrahman said the Coast region has suffered the menace and seeing government concentrating more on Shisha was a pure surprise.

Abdulrahman said that the ban was impractical since most of those taking Shisha were well-off people who would do it inside their houses.

He said that the Coast future generation was killed by drugs and the urged the government to show interest in curbing the menace in the region.

He said that the fight against drug abuse among locals in the region was left to anti-drug abuse activists while government bodies including NACADA did nothing tangible to help out the suffering youths.

“How will the government officers invade a private property to arrest those smoking Shisha without any search warrant?” posed Mr. Taib.

He urged the Health ministry to work with other stakeholders in fighting drug abuse in the Country and specifically at the Coast.

Taib said that the anti-drug abuse activists want to see drug traffickers arrested and charged before the court of law and not for the government to focus on Shisha while it relents on search major problem.

“Banning Shisha will not bring any positive impact to the fight against drug abuse in the Country, we want to see the government netting those bringing in drugs first” he reiterated.

Taib said that the flavored Shisha smoked in fumes, mostly in private places, involved rich people who can still do it whether the ban is effective or not.

“We expect more from the National government and not issuing legal notice on Shisha, it will not bring any change in the fight against drug abuse in the society” he added.
