Residents of Mashimoni area in Kibera have urged the county government to concentrate on the removal of garbage from the slums.
Speaking at the site that has been filled up with garbage for more than 4 months now.
Residents said the Ministry of Environment from Nairobi County has not done much in the area to ensure that people living in the slum have a good and clean environment.
"The county government should act and rescue the situation. There have been delays in collecting garbage from the site for a long time. Is the county government waiting for short rains to start then the come collect the garbage?" questioned Michael Kimasu.
"How come leaders are fighting who should be next governor in 2017. The journey starts now. Let them come and collect garbage. Leadership is not about votes but it is about next generation. They would not be fighting for power leaving the people who will vote them suffering from garbage near living premises. Kidero's leadership should help save situation before 2017," stated Justus Kirui.
The residents vowed not to be cheated in 2017 by leaders who will not bring development in the slums to improve people's lives.
