Residents of Kisii town have decried the rising number of bats in the CBD which they say are a source noise pollution and dirt. The bats, which were evacuated few months ago, have returned in full swing, causing concern among some residents. Speaking to HiviSasa.com, the officer in charge of forestry in Kisii County, Julius Kisa, said the bats go over long distances at night and arrive early in the morning. “Those with young ones remain at night while the free ones travel over many kilometers to hunt for prey,” said Kisa. He added that these bats may cause trouble to the residents in Kisii region since they may carry diseases like Ebola. Somebody who sought anonymity said that these bats were brought by one Luo man who was a worker by then in Kisii town who said that these were his guards. “I have been here as a government civil servant for long and I have seen how these animals have come to exist in this region: there was two of them at first and now they are hundreds,” he said. He urged the county government to intervene since this situation may cause trouble to residents and people of Nyanza region at large.
