It is now becoming apparent that an increasing number of older women in Nakuru are turning to prostitution within the town's social dens.
This is according to a Nakuru based civil society and rights group that has raised serious concerns owing to the rising statistics of older women engaging in sex for money within the town and its adjacent estates.
The Nakuru Town Women Empowerment and Protection group said that recent developments that has seen a number of older women getting in commercialized sex work is a common in lowly rated estates and down town back streets in Nakuru.
The group's chairperson Priscilla Ndwegwa, said it is heartbreaking and embarrassing to see mothers aged 50 years and over lining the streets to trade in their flesh.
She spoke on Tuesday in Nakuru town when the organisation initiated The Rejesha mama nyumbani' campaign.
Ndwegwa decried the habit which she noted was ruining the moral standards of the society as the women are setting a very bad example to the all time observant younger generation.
Through their Rejesha mama programme, the civil group will seek to convince the women to abandon commercial sex and get rehabilitated into starting businesses to earn income.
Most of the older women engaging in the sex trade cite poverty and unemployment as their reasons..
