The national government has created and authorised a committee to probe into the inferno cases, with Chege Mwangi, the county commissioner instructing the Criminal Investigations Department to swing into action.

Last week alone, the student dormitories of two schools, St John’s Nyamagwa Boys High and St Mary’s Nyamagwa Girls’ High in Kisii County were razed down by fire under mysterious circumstances.

Nyamagwa Boys was also consequently closed for two weeks following a protest by students owing to the school’s poor performance in the previous Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

The school, sponsored by the Catholic church posted a mean score of 7.9 points.

Bassi Boitangare, the area MCA condemned the act, terming it a disgraceful attempt to interfere with the education programmes of innocent students.
