Kenya Union of Post Primary teachers (Kuppet) Uasin Gishu Secretary General Elijah Maiyo has raised concern over increased number of teachers using second generation alcohol.
He said this has led to poor class attendance and pupils/students failing exams.
Maiyo said addiction to the illicit brews had made the teachers forget their matrimonial duties.
"It's sad that one hundred teachers are involved in the intake of illegal alcohol, making them to be useless people in the society," he said.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Maiyo said the union will conduct a one-day guiding and counselling exercise to help teachers involved in the vice.
"On 16th June in Conjunction with Uasin Gishu County government department of Alcohol Licensing Board, we will be conducting guiding and counselling workshop that will involve all affected teachers in the county," he said.
He said, it aims at rehabilitating them to refrain from using alcohol.
"I am calling upon teachers to stop using illegal liquor, since they are role models, what will children learn from them if they are always drunk," he said.
He called upon Kenyans not to discriminate teachers addicted to alcohol but instead encourage and help them.
