Information Communication and Technology, Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, has for the second time snubbed the Senate committee on ICT to answer questions as to why three local media houses were shut down.
Mucheru was supposed to explain the reasons why TV stations were shut down and also why the state was allegedly targeting journalists in the crackdown against the media.
The deputy chair of the committee nominated Senator Halake Abshiro, however, directed the CS to appear before it on 26th of this month.
The latest development came as National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale weighed on the issue.
He faulted the Senate probe and advised the CS to ignore invitation by Senate’s ICT committee to discuss recent media shutdown.
The majority leader says house standing orders shall be enforced therefore matters pending before the court shall not be discussed by parliament.
Duale also wants senate’s Ict committee chairperson Gideon Moi to avoid chairing the committee when dealing with media matters alleging conflict of interest.
On Thursday last week, Mucheru failed to show up at the senate committee claiming he was attending a cabinet meeting.
The CS said he will only be available to appear before the committee after February 26.
The CS is scheduled to shed light on how far investigations into the shutdown of KTN News, Citizen TV and NTV have gone after their signal was switched off for six days.
