According to the committee, there are more than 600,000 illegal weapons in the country, with Nairobi and North Rift regions, leading in the statistics.
Chairman Joseph Kaguthi said police were trained on the use of weapons and would not use guns unnecessarily. “We have more than half a million guns owned by Kenyans illegally.
They commit crimes that police need to investigate,” he said. Kaguthi was speaking to the press when he met security officers under Nyumba Kumi clusters at ACK hall in Naivasha.
He termed the spread of fake news and propaganda as some of the challenges they are facing in the implementation Nyumba Kumi. Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Isaac Masinde said chiefs and senior officers had been trained on how to detect fake and alarming statements on social media.
He said they are pursuing a group of the criminal who were spreading hate messages and rumors on social media during the elections. “This is the same group that said some communities were being evicted in this town,” he said.
