Parents have been cautioned against using children with disabilities as tools to earn income by parading them on the streets to beg.
According to Fr. Kevin Kongowea of Mjengo Catholic Parish in Eldoret town, there has been an increase in incidences of parents converting their kids into items of generating income.
Speaking after visiting Matunda small home for children with disabilities in Turbo sub-county on Sunday, Fr. Kongowea said disabled children should be treated with dignity like other children.
"It's wrong for a parent to use his/her disabled child as a cash cow. Such a child deserve to be treated like others," noted Fr. Kongowea.
"Being disabled doesn't mean they cannot be taken to school or provided with basic needs," he added.
The clergy further reiterated the need for children to be taught at a tender age the charitable traits of assisting fellow needy kids.
During the visit, children living at the facility were appreciative and called on the national and county government to help other disabled children.
