President Uhuru Kenyatta will not take part in the presidential debate scheduled for July 24.
Dennis Itumbi, the Senior Director of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President confirmed on Twitter, while responding to a tweet by Daily Nation.
Itumbi said the president will be busy "engaging the people of Kenya directly at their homes and markets."
He was responding to a tweet by The Nation, in which The National Super Alliance (Nasa) had hit out at Jubilee Party for avoiding the debate organised by Debates Media Limited.
Deputy President William Ruto had also indicated he will not take part in today's debate, in which running mates of the presidential candidates are expected to tackle key issues affecting Kenyans.
Jubilee claimed they were not "fully engaged" in the organisation of the debates.
