Land grabbing has been blamed for congestion in Kisii Town during an inspection exercise.
Land meant for development by the government has been grabbed to the extent of denying the town's population public parking space, a situation the county government has promised to change.
Addressing Journalists in his office on Wednesday after inspecting the town, Kisii Governor James Ongwae said that the congestion is a result of lack of land for expansion.
Ongwae said despise the challenges, his government has set up measures to ensure that the town is being reorganised so that everyone gets a to create a more business-friendly environment.
He said that the county has set resources to make sure that transport within the town becomes smooth adding that more matatu stages will be set up.
“Being a growing town in Nyanza region we expect this to happen hence it is our role to make the town organised even if we have challenges of lack of land,” said Ongwae
The governor also revealed that there was a plan to provide sheds for small-scale traders in the town to enable them operate even during the rainy season.
"We have set up some resources aside to make sure that our town is well structured, I have ordered my officials to do mapping so that we can know where to set up this structures and help our people,” added Ongwae.
