Celebrated Congolese singer Mbilia Bel has hinted at retiring a couple of months after her Kenyan tour. The superstar flew in the country on Monday and received a warm welcome at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. She said she could consider quitting live performances for studio work.
She will tour Nairobi and Kisumu to entertain her fans and win others. The shows will also be accompanied by some charity engagements and a visit to Lang’ata Women’s Prison. She is on what she calls the ‘Kenyan Peace Tour’.
“After 35 years in music, I am gradually beginning to feel the need to now concentrate on studio work and less on live shows,” Bel said as quoted by the Nation.
The great musician said that her Kenyan performance will be among her last live engagements in a stellar career. She started as a dancer and graduated to an exceptional vocalist.
Mbilia was part of the famed Rochereau’s Afrisa International Band led by Tabu Ley. This musical icon mentored her before venturing in this tricky industry solo. She will be entertaining her fans with new hits from the 17-song ‘Signature’ album that was launched in May.
General Defao will join her performance as they preach peace.
“I promise to give my Kenyan fans the best of both my earlier and new songs,” Mbilia said as reported by the Nation.
