Renowned former boxing champion Conjestina Achieng’s family says the Siaya County government has ignored them.
Conjestina’s elder brother, William, said she has never been in a stable condition.
“We received aid a few times but the well-wishers cut it off. None of the family members is in the formal sector to sustain her care,” he said as reported by the Star.
The boxer, who solely depended on his career for income, first became unwell in 2013.
She has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for four years now.
Her brother claimed Siaya County leaders have been ignoring them since 2015.
“I have made several visits to the county government office with the aim of addressing Governor Cornel Rasanga about my sister’s condition. I only managed to talk to him once but he has never fulfilled the promise he made (that year)," he told the Star.
The Governor when contacted, said he will ensure the sports star is taken care of.
He further claimed that Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has never offered to help them despite being aware of her unstable health condition.
"My frantic efforts to help my sister have borne no fruit and I have given up as no local well-wishers or leaders are willing to help,” he said.
Conjestina’s brother says the family needs a sustainable source of income to enable them take care of their sister.
“Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Speaker Alex Magelo and Mama Ida Odinga are among those who have helped us but the question is for how long? We need one of the family members empowered to sort out our problems," he said.
