Smartly dressed men and women have flooded Nakuru town and their motives are to have a productive day in every sense.
They come ‘to work’ every day and they can easily be mistaken to be those working in offices in the town. However, several people who have fallen victim to the good looking men and women.
The con people, said to be four, are targeting members of the public along Nakuru town’s Kenyatta Avenue.
According to residents, one of them is a woman who pretends to know a person and greets them like a long lost friend. Moments later, the victim who greeted the stranger starts feeling dizzy and passes out a few minutes later.
The group is allegedly targeting people near banks and shopping malls. A recent incident is an attempt to con a journalist, Anne Ngugi, near Westside Mall on Thursday evening.
Ms Ngugi said that a woman who pretended to know her approached her as she alighted from a car and within no time, she started introducing her to a waiting man who pretended to be a doctor. The victim said the stranger went ahead to request her to remove her spectacles and when she started feeling dizzy, the journalist raised an alarm that attracted passers-by, prompting the two to flee.
She said that the there was a likelihood that those who fled were operating a con cartel in town.
Two other similar cases were reported in the town last week.
So far, Nakuru police boss Bernard Kioko has assured town residents that investigations have been launched to bring the conmen to book. Kioko has also urged members of the public to be cautious and report any case of conning immediately.
