"It is our task in our time and in our generation, to hand down undiminished to those who come after us, the natural wealth and beauty which is ours," said U.S President John F Kennedy.
Wildlife is part of our national heritage. The tourism sector largely depends on our wildlife. Tourists from all over the world come here to visit our game parks earning us a lot of revenue.
This shows how important our wildlife is to the economy of the country. However, human inteference is endangering the wildlife.
Poachers continue to kill our elephants and rhinos for ivory despite it been illegal. Urbanization and uncontrolled infrastructure developments around and inside the parks are disturbing the wildlife.
Some are even migrating or escaping from the parks. Locals living around the parks and forests are encroaching on the parks and cutting down trees.
Private developers are also invading on the forest land. If nothing is done to stop these human interference, we will soon have no wildlife in the country.
The next generation will only read about wildlife in books. We must stand up for our national heritage and protect the wildlife. The government should ensure we have strong policies on wildlife conservation.
Locals should also be sensitized on their role on wildlife conservation. Let us not destroy what is ours.
