A section of leaders from the North Rift has asked Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and his Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Musalia Mudavadi to work together with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Speaking during the homecoming of Kiptuya Ward representative Jack Kevolwe, the leaders from the Luhya and Kalenjin communities further called for the formation of an alliance that will put 'one of their own' in State House.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said, "We urge you (Mudavadi and Wetangula) to agree between yourselves and present us with a suitable candidate so we can decide on how we will complete this race."
The Jubilee Governor said Ruto had a higher chance of assenting to the top seat in the land given that he has already occupied the second position.
"Ruto is already closer to the Presidency, let him serve his 10 years then you, Wetangula and Mudavadi, will follow," he said.
However, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei warned that Jubilee will not allow opposition leader Raila Odinga to come in and destroy their home.
The Senator further urged his Senate counterpart Wetangula and ANC leader Mudavadi to support DP Ruto and prepare themselves to deputize him come 2022.
"Let Ruto become President with either Wetangula or Mudavadi as his running mate so we can all benefit,” added Chesumei MP Wilson Sogo.
However, their sentiments were not received well by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale who instead urged the Rift Valley leaders to ask DP Ruto to step down and support Mudavadi.
"We as Luhyas stood with Moi for 24 years. Ruto is still a young man, Mudavadi is his senior; support him for the presidency and become his deputy. God’s time is the best time,” Khalwale pleaded.
