Thika legislator Alice Ng’ang’a has come out strongly to condemn Kiambu County Government for imposing heavy taxes and undefined charges on the locals.
Speaking on Friday in Makongeni area where the market traders held demonstrations against the county government levies, the MP said that the governor had been levying the business people of the area and yet the residents don’t see whatever their money does in the county.
Ng’ang’a cited the recent demonstrations in Kikuyu, Limuru, Githunguri and now in Thika stating that the locals have been oppressed by the county government that does not care of their personal matters.
Ng’ang’a asked the governor to consider the locals’ in decision making in the county as they are the ones who bequeathed him the governor seat.
“Kabogo, you should consider this people in the decision making of the county. The people have been complaining of these levies and you should listen to them. Makongeni people have not refused to pay the taxes but they also need to see whatever the money is doing in the county,” the legislator said.
She added that the residents should be given notices on anything likely to happen citing the recent Umoja Estate demolition where the locals were not informed in time only to find their property destroyed.
She said she will do everything in her power to have justice delivered to the area residents.
The MP was accompanied by hospital ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi.
