A defiant opposition leader Raila Odinga says President Uhuru Kenyatta is a ceremonial president adding that the constitution limits his powers.

Under the constitution, Uhuru is acting as a temporary incumbent since he cannot hire or fire employees in various departments.

And at Bungoma on Saturday, Odinga sensationally claimed that Uhuru is only allowed to ‘drink’ under the constitution.

“Uhuru is a caretaker president. He cannot hire, he cannot declare war or peace under the new constitution,” he said.

Odinga added:”The constitution however, allows him only to drink and that is what we have seen him exercising in the last few days.”

At the moment, the president cannot appoint commissioners or ambassadors to offices given strict constitutional requirements.

The two political protagonists will face each other for the third time in less than five years as the country goes for another election in October.
