Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a wants Kiambu County government to construct modern stalls for traders in the Constituency.
Speaking to News Reporters in Thika town, MP Ng’ang’a said that traders in the area have no proper places to conduct their businesses.
She said that traders’ work is inconvenienced by harsh sun and rain adding that the county government must act immediately to rescue the traders by constructing for them modern stalls.
“I appeal to the Kiambu County government to quickly construct modern stalls for Thika traders so that they enjoy during the time they operate, be it when it rains or sunny,” said Ng’ang’a.
Ng’ang’a said that the county government collects revenue from hawkers and traders every month stating that the same should be used to construct modern stalls.
The MP further asked the County Assembly Members to formulate laws that will protect traders and hawkers whenever they operate their business as a way of improving living standards of Kiambu people.
She stated that hawkers suffer at the hands of county officials adding that things should change through proper policies.
The MP said that she will continue to agitate for the rights of hawkers noting that the sector has employed many youths, whom if not well encouraged might involve in crime.
She asked traders and hawkers to apply for soft loans and expand their business with the idea of creating more job opportunities for the many unemployed youths.
