Speaking in Thika Town on Wednesday, Kiambu Chief Environment Officer Andrew Kimani said that the resumption of the construction activities at the site had been occasioned by good weather.

"As you can recall, when we called off construction activities at Kang'oki dumpsite, El~Nino rains were at the peak which made the work difficult and we had to suspend the activities for a while. However, I am now pleased to announce that the contractors are now back at the site as the current weather is favourable for construction activities," said Kimani.

He said that the construction will now continue unhindered with the dump site expected to complete at the end of the year or early 2017.

"We have agreed with all the contractors involved that they are going to work hard to ensure that the lost time is recovered and that we stay within schedule. We want them to deliver the facility to us latest early next year though there is a possibility of having it complete by the end of this year," he added.

The construction of the dump site on a 20-acre piece of land was launched by Governor William Kabogo early last year and the project is jointly funded by Kiambu County government and the Swedish government.
