The National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has ordered a construction company based in Kisuani, Mombasa, to conduct an environmental audit and submit its report in January 2018.This comes after residents living on the outskirts of the company complained that the company was emitting waste and dirty water that ends up in their residential area.Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo toured the affected areas of Kiembeni, Loma and Maji Machafu and received complaints from the residents. The residents said the company, Mulji Constructions had failed to manage its waste which they said was flowing to residential areas making the areas inhabitable.Mbogo, while addressing locals at Kiembeni and Maji Machafu areas in Kisauni over the weekend promised locals that the problem will be solved since it poses a health risk to residents.“We invite investors since they boost our economy and job creation, but they should not kill us, let them consider our health,” said Mbogo. He said that though the problem has been experienced for a long time, he was working towards solving it and ensuring locals live in a conducive environment.NEMA officials toured the affected areas on Tuesday and ordered the firm to employ an independent audit firm which will assess the environmental impact and submit its report before the end of January next year. The officials said the company was posing a great health risk, adding that the concerns of residents were genuine. The company management was not available for comment. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
