A Chinese company yesterday resumed constructing a perimiter wall on earlier desputed land in Athi River town after farmers and complainants who protested against it late last year were compensated.
The construction had been stopped by the government same year following the farmers' demonstrations demanding compensations of their crops before erecting the wall.
This was disclosed by the area chief, Cecilia Juma, who said all the complainants had been compensated with the man claiming part of the 2.25 acre land receiving lion's share of Kshs. 300,000.
Juma said over 30 farmers had been paid Kshs. 50,000 each to settle the stalement between them and the investor who is apparently developing the land.
Nancy Muthoni, one of the beneficiaries confirmed that they had received the payments and left the parcel of land for the investor's operations.
She thanked the government for geting to their rescue when they felt opressed after the investor's contructor threatened to evict them from the land without notice and compensation.
Juma said operations on the land were peaceful and that the victims were satisfied with the payments since a number of them started businesses to earn livelihoods.
