Residents of Bomariba ward in Kisii South Sub County have accused a Chinese contractor constructing Igonga - Mogumo for demolishing structures among them kiosks and small business joints in the area.
The residents have threatened to frustrate the contractor until he compensates them.
"Our houses near roads have been demolished by the contractor without notice. Traders running small businesses have incurred huge losses after their roadside kiosks were demolished," said Newton Mong'iti, a local.
Mr Mong'iti said the contractor failed to issue a notice for the locals to look for alternatives.
"There was no notice given by the contractor, county, and national governments. What we want is compensation for the losses incurred failure to which the contractor will not go on with the roadworks," he added.
A trader Monyangi Machuka said it was wrong for the contractor to demolish roadside structures yet residents could have been informed early to remove property from the houses.
"Property worth thousands of shillings has been destroyed after the kiosks were demolished. I lost everything because tractors demolished my kiosk with all my stock," she said.
