The government has finally spoken after the collapse of Sh1.2 billion Sigiri bridge in Budalangi, Monday morning.
The bridge, which is a National government-funded project, was inspected by president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, June 15, when they visited the region.
The government has now suspended the construction of the bridge and has sent a team to investigate the cause of the incident.
According to Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development PS John Mosonik, the construction will be put to hold until integrity report is ready.
“A team of investigators from Kenya Urban Roads Authority have been dispatched to establish the cause of the collapse,” said Mosonik in a statement, Monday.
“The team comprised of top engineers will investigate the cause of the failure of the structure and will release more information as it becomes available,” he added.
